I choose units and subjects that are relevant to their everyday lives and connect it to Israel, its culture, and Jewish values. Learning Ivrit involves practicing many skills such as: speaking, writing, listening comprehension, and reading comprehension. Experiential learning is an important value in studying Hebrew in my class, therefore, I in cooperate, songs, the latest applications, computer projects and recorded homework are just a few examples. While learning Hebrew in my class, I emphasize on each child’s potential to learn and look at each child as an individual. I believe that by learning the Ivrit, my students will develop their love to Israel, its people and connect to years of tradition and heritage of the Jewish people.
My name is Hanni Goldfarb. I've been a teacher at Gindi Maimonides for the past 7 years. I teach Hebrew in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.I was born and raised in Israel. I earned my BA in Education and Jewish Philosophy at Tel Aviv University and a Teaching Certificate of Hebrew as a foreign language from MOFET in Israel. I teach Hebrew using the communication approach that is also called the "functional" approach. This approach promotes that the ultimate goal in learning Hebrew is the acquisition of communicative competence, and this requires the qualifying practice of all language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in equal measure. My goal is to help students function in Hebrew with all these skills of speaking / listening / reading / writing to the same standard. In addition, I combine different learning styles and technology to make learning fun, entertaining, and diverse. Moreover, I create a pleasant atmosphere in the classroom where students feel safe enough to speak and make mistakes in Hebrew and eventually correct and learn from those mistakes. Most importantly, we learn from each other. I believe that the Hebrew is the key to Israel and its culture, to Judaism and Jewish identity. I am privileged to teach Hebrew to the next generation which is a tremendous gift to my students. I hope that my students will strengthen their Hebrew, which is the asset and common language for Jews all over the world. I wish you all a good and successful year and enjoy watching your children’s Ivrit work on this site. |
